Belle's Top 20 Asian Drama Actors; #7 - Hyun Bin

Profile
Name: 현빈 / Hyun Bin (Hyeon Bin)
Age: 27 (Korea), 26 (international)
Profession: Actor/model
Birthplace: Seoul, South Korea
Height: 184cm
Charm Points: His height. His dimples. His mesmerizing smile. That can turn into a mesmerizing smirk. His beautiful jawline. His clean look. His scruffy look. His fantastic acting abilities.
The Magic of Hyun Bin: One word: hawt. No, seriously. Whenever Hyun Bin's on screen, it's like the drama is burning (in a good way XD). His image has made a turn around since Kim Sam Soon (more on that later). I thought he was brilliant there. But, apparently, I'd only seen the edges of Hyun Bin's drama magic. He just keeps getting better all the time.
You've Probably Seen Him In: What else but the drama that catapulted him into the limelight, My Name is Kim Sam Soon? ;) Hyun Bin plays an arrogant but kind restaurant owner. He hires Sam Soon, a spunky woman (weirdly enough called fat by the people around her 0_0) to become a baker at his restaurant. This is where their curious love-hate relationship begins. This is a really fun romantic comedy with its angsty and dramatic moments. I highly suggest you watch it if only to get inside Sam Soon's head. The things she dreams up. XD
You Should Check Him Out In: As if being a charismatic and handsome corporate man was not enough, Hyun Bin does a complete turn around in Snow Queen (highly recommended!) and gives us Tae Woong, a genius of a student, who after a series of sad events in his life, ends up as a scruffy and angst-ridden boxer. Saying goodbye to his clean-cut image, Hyun Bin turns into a rough, smexy man. The story itself is beautiful, sad, and absorbing with heartrending references to the fairy tale Snow Queen. I can't really express the beauty of this drama in words. It's a drama, all right, and you won't be able to take your eyes off the screen no matter how depressing it gets. This is a story of love, loss, and discovery that won't disappoint you. It really made me appreciate Hyun Bin's acting prowess more. And this was also when I started loving actress Sung Yu Ri (yes, that adorable Yi Nok from Hong Gil Dong). Their chemistry is scalding. His recent drama The World That They Live In is also worth looking into, yes, yes.
Why He's On My List: He just can't miss. He's got that smexy afdfhdjhfdjghdfj;; look going for him, his amazing acting skills, and he keeps picking interesting roles.

This is what Hyun Bin looked like before.

He has a superb body. (And this is an old picture. XD)

He can also act adorkable if he wants to.

I mean, check it out. Too cute.

Look at those dimples.

No one can resist them it seems. :P

Hyun Bin loves suits.

You're wondering why?

Oh, I dunno, maybe because he looks gorgeous in them? :P

Then, one day, Hyun Bin woke up...

...and turned into a sex god.

Yes, prz.

He exchanged his suits for scruffy clothing.

Scruffier clothing.

And started his gangsta training.

But he couldn't resist grabbing another suit.

Then he pulls out his winning smile.

His dimples again.

And his grungy hair (that works for him).

Do that charismatic pose again, please, Hyun Bin. XD

Worlds didn't work for me, I dropped it after 3 eps, and I haven't gotten around to Sam Soon yet, but he is GORGEOUS. *purr* The gangsta pic is KILLING me, is that from Snow Queen? I've been meaning to watch that, I've always LOVED that fairy tale <3 Spoil me - sad ending? Either one of them die?

I say as long as Hyun Bin's there, it's worth looking into but I can see why it won't work for everyone. ;) Nope, the pics' not from Snow Queen, just a photoshoot. :3 Snow Queen is beautiful despite it being so heartbreaking. It's a bit slow so that's a warning if you don't like slow-paced dramas. Aiyaa, you sure you want to be spoiled? :P

[start spoiler] Yup, one of them did.;;; I thought the ending was bittersweet. [/end spoiler]

CRUMBS! Foiled AGAIN! How come all the pics I latch on to are never from dramas?? =p I as afraid of that. =.=" If its a drama where someone dies, its pretty hit or miss. There are some I've LOVED, like Misa/Tree of Heaven, and there are ones I've hated, like Autumn Tale. But like I said, I love the fairytale. Slow paced is bad.. but snow! Snowwww!!! ^^ I'll give it a try pretty soon, I think. ^^ If only because it promises to be so pretty. And 3 eps of Worlds was not NEARLY enough time to get acquainted with Bin!dimples.

Wahaha, Autumn Tale. Thorn in my side. But one of my guilty pleasures. Made me hate on Song Hye Kyo for a while (until I watched Full House). <.<; And the ending. Gaaah.

Tell me what you think. :3 Hyun Bin = too hard to resist, rofl.
gogomoksori: omg[info]gogomoksori on January 5th, 2009 06:25 pm (UTC)
I got through Autumn Tale with the help of the gorrrrrrrgeous Wonbin, and Han Chae Young, who was unintentionally hilarious. *SHE ALWAYS TAKES MY STUFF!* Haha. =p But, yes, the ending!!! All that suffering, and for what? For him to walk into a bus. SIGGGGGH. I didn't hate the leads, I just hated the story, it was so ridiculously pointless. But then Junsu said it was the first drama he loved! *DED* =p

ANYWAY. Yes! He really is! I was disappointed that I didn't get into Worlds, because I really wanted to watch hm more!

MMMMMMMMM HYUN BIN~!

I finally finished MNIKSS and he's absolutely delicious. His appeal isn't immediate, though - it took me quite some time to get used to him but by about ep 5 I wanted to put him in my pocket forever. The episode where they come back from the mountain and he's lying on the bed on his side looking at her (around ep 12 or so)? That cemented it for me. MMMMMMMMMMMM he is gorgeous. ♥

Oh, believe me, in Snow Queen, the effect is immediate, rofl. XD But I agree that it's different for Sam Soon, hehe.

mmmguh. I Knew there was a reason I wanted to watch Snow Queen. He must be it. lol....suits and scruffy--- how nicely versatile.

I actually wasn't that big a fan of MNIKSS or his character but Snow Queen is somewhere next on my TO WATCH list so I hope he really impresses me there.

I do like what I see off him offscreen (which is not much but he seems to carry himself maturely and professionally).

Did you see the mini-episodes (commercials) of him and Shin Min Ah (who is my number one girl crush of all time)? Even though they weren't subbed, they were so cute in it. I'd actually like to see them paired up in a movie or something.

That he does. ;)

Omg, as a matter of fact, I have. They are adorable and I almost wished it were a movie or a drama. I love Shin Min Ah, too, and their chemistry in those short commercials was awesome.

haha i love your little commentaries! but i mean you're 100% right. this guy can be cute and sexy at the same time... what more can you ask for??

Hi,

I hope that you don't mind me commenting on your post.

I really like Hyun Bin, especially in Snow Queen. The man is just so good at being emo.

He is also in a movie called Spin Kick with my #1 Kim Dong Wan from Shinhwa. The movie is about a bunch of troublemakers who accidentally take out a high school's TaeKwonDo team and have no choice but to replace them in a competition.

O.M.G.

SNOW QUEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Super gangsta Hyunnie who's the wackiest nerdiest boxer alive!

And he turns out to be a math genius later on too, with that brain...

...be right back. dieing in a corner somewhere.

he's that hot. ;o;
weerainbow[info]weerainbow on May 10th, 2009 10:58 pm (UTC)
Oh yes, he's got that cute-hot balance just right!! I think I discovered him first in his movie "A Millionaire's First Love" which he impressed me a lot with. It's one of those sad stories that I still loved to bits even though it was sad! Probably because it was Hyun Bin on screen ;o)
Loved his performance in "My Name Is Kim Sam Soon" too, he was quite adorable but also quite deep.
Definitely worthy of his high spot on your list :o)
